Americans For Farmers & Families Submits Statement For The Record To U.S. Senate Committee On Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry On State Of Rural America
(Washington, D.C.) – In advance of the U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry hearing on the state of rural America, Americans for Farmers and Families (AFF) today submitted to Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS), Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (R-MI) and committee members a statement for the record from Casey Guernsey, former member of the Missouri State House and spokesman for AFF’s “Retaliation Hurts Rural Families” initiative.
In the statement, Rep. Guernsey wrote:
“Secretary Perdue has been an outspoken advocate for policies that support rural America, including increasing trade opportunities. And he continues to recognize that farmers like me are extremely anxious for a finalized NAFTA deal sooner rather than later.
“As [this committee looks] at the state of rural America today, we urge you to reinforce how preserving NAFTA and breaking down trade barriers will pay off substantially – not just for farmers and families in your states, but for all Americans. Now more than ever, the fate of our industries, our workers and our livelihoods hinges on finalizing this agreement – and time is of the essence.”
