Americans For Farmers & Families Statement Responding To Biggest Tariff Threat From China To Date

(Washington, D.C.) – Americans for Farmers & Families (AFF) today released the following statement from Casey Guernsey, former Missouri state legislator and spokesman for AFF’s “Retaliation Hurts Rural Families” initiative, following China’s announcement that it intends to impose tariffs on $200 billion of U.S. exports:

“Farmers and families are rightly sounding the alarm as the frequency and magnitude of trade tensions continue to escalate with no relief in sight.

“Rather than move toward a responsible resolution, it looks as though both the U.S. and China are doubling down on tariffs that will rip apart rural communities across the country.

“We need to hold China to account – but not at the expense of hardworking Americans. Even the threat of these tariffs – let alone the actual imposition of them – will have lasting, irreversible consequences on farming operations, including my own, while consumers pay higher prices for everyday items they need.

“I urge the Administration to reverse course before China imposes the most damaging wave of tariffs yet and seek to find middle ground that does not punish rural families.”
