Americans For Farmers & Families Statement On China’s Latest Retaliatory Measure Against U.S. Exporters
(Washington, D.C.) – Americans for Farmers & Families (AFF) today released the following statement from Casey Guernsey, a seventh-generation farmer, former Missouri state legislator and spokesman for AFF’s “Retaliation Hurts Rural Families” initiative, following China’s decision to impose tariffs on another $60 billion of U.S. products in response to the Trump Administration’s proposal to increase tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese imports from 10 to 25 percent:
“China’s announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone – it’s déjà vu all over again. Every single time we propose new trade barriers, China never fails to do the same.
“If trade tensions continue to escalate at this rate, the U.S. and China will inevitably hit a point of no return – upending access to one of the biggest customers of American products in the world and causing irreparable damage to our livelihoods, families and economy.
“As I said earlier this week, we cannot afford to lose this critical market. I urge the administration to look for opportunities to hold China accountable without causing more harm to the agricultural industry.”
