Americans For Farmers & Families Releases Statement From Indiana Farmer In Advance Of House Ways & Means Committee Hearings On Trade
National Agriculture Day Is A Reminder Of The Importance Of NAFTA To Farmers

(Washington, D.C.) – Americans for Farmers & Families today released the following statement on National Agriculture Day from Sarah Delbecq, farmer and President of the Indiana Corn Growers Association, ahead of the Ways & Means Committee hearing to discuss U.S. trade policy with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. The hearings are set for Wednesday, March 21 with Representative Lighthizer and Thursday, March 22 with Secretary Ross.

“It’s my hope that members of the committee ask the necessary questions to both Secretary Ross and Representative Lighthizer on their plan to protect my farm and all family farms across America, specifically by preserving the North American Free Trade Agreement. I hope they both understand the importance of NAFTA and how withdrawal could be devastating to rural communities all across the country already struggling to make ends meet.

“I also hope they both address the concerns from the agriculture community on how harmful retaliatory tariffs could jeopardize the need to modernize NAFTA for the 21st Century. It is well known that the agriculture community feels the impact of these tariffs first, which shut down export markets and raise prices for consumers.”
